Part-time Farmers

  • Part time farmers are applicants that have a primary business or occupation other than agriculture.
  • Typically, the agricultural operation represents less than 50% of the applicants total business.

Full-time Farmers

  • Full time farmers are applicants that have farming as the primary business.
  • Collectively gross agricultural income and agricultural assets constitute a majority of gross income and total assets.

Young, Beginning or Small Farmers

  • A young farmer is one who is 35 years of age or younger
  • A beginning farmer is one who has 10 or fewer years in farming, ranching or aquatic agriculture experience
  • A small farmer is one who has less than $250,000 in annual gross agricultural or aquatic sales.
